The 16-year-old stood focused on the mat. She bowed to her opponent and then got down to business. It quickly became clear who was in charge. Sveya Konrad, who played for TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen, won comfortably. It wasn’t her first triumph. And yet, with this victory in the competition up to 63 kilos, the young judoka secured her ticket to the German U18 individual championships on March 2nd and 3rd in Leipzig. At the same time, this opened up excellent opportunities for them to perform not only at the upcoming European Championships, but even at the World Championships. At least that’s how her trainer and coach Anthony Zingg, European champion of the year 2018, sees it.
