900 top athletes from 55 countries are training for the Summer Olympics

(LK) Mittersill is the meeting place for the world’s judo elite until January 16th. 902 judoka from 55 countries are training in the Oberpinzgau city for the Summer Olympics, which will take place in Paris this year.

The list of participants at the Mittersill Judo Camp is prominent: nine reigning Olympic champions and four current world champions compete on the world’s largest judo mat in the 1,500 square meter “Dojo”, the specially equipped training hall. Host Austria provides the largest contingent with 90 participants.

A fixed point for top judo sport

There is also an anniversary to celebrate this year: it is the 30th Olympic Training Camp in Mittersill. “The best judo training camp in the world has a permanent location in Oberpinzgau and brings the absolute sports elite to Mittersill every year. “Hopeful young talents train here side by side with the top stars,” emphasizes State Councilor Martin Zauner, who paid a visit to the camp.

Large family event

If you’re out and about in the 5,000-inhabitant city of Mittersill these days, you have a good chance of meeting an Olympic champion or a judo world champion. “The athletes and trainers are spread across 40 accommodations. Above all, they appreciate the family atmosphere. “Many former active players have now joined the coaching ranks and have remained loyal to the host town for years,” says Tourism Managing Director Michael Sinnhuber.
