SLIDESHOW – Meet the six sailors who will set off from Brest on Sunday for the first solo maxi-trimaran race around the world.

Six sailors will depart from Brest on Sunday for the Arkea Ultim Challenge, the first edition of the solo Ultim round-the-world race: Armel Le Cléac’h (Maxi Banque Populaire XI), Charles Caudrelier (Maxi Edmond de Rothschild), Tom Laperche ( SVR-Lazartigue), Thomas Coville (Sodebo 3), Anthony Marchand (Actual) and Éric Péron (Adagio).

The top three are favorites at the controls of the fastest machines in the class on paper, with perhaps a very slim advantage over Le Cléac’h, recent winner of the Transat Jacques Vabre. Coville’s boat, very reliable like all the other Ultims, is perhaps a notch below the trio mentioned in terms of pure performance, but Sodebo seems to have a head start on the other two projects of Marchand and Péron. Presentation of the strengths and weaknesses of each participant, all in images.
