Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Follows in His Father’s Footsteps as MLB Video Game Cover Athlete

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. accomplished another feat of his father.

Toronto Blue Jays first baseman to appear on video game cover MLB The Show 24thus following in the footsteps of his illustrious father who had reigned over the video game industry MLB 2006 – the last edition before the franchise was renamed by Sony, after San Diego Studio took over development of the game.

“I’m so happy,” Guerrero Jr. said, in English, during an interview. My dad was on the cover, and now it’s my turn. It’s incredible ! »

“I grew up playing video games,” he continued. It’s a dream come true. Everyone wants to be on the cover of this game.”

The new version of this video game will be available from March 19 on the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch consoles as well as Xbox X/S and Xbox One.

Guerrero, who is 24, hit .264 with 26 homers and 94 RBIs last season. Entering his sixth season in the Major Leagues, he is hitting for a .279 average with 130 long balls and 404 RBIs in his career.

He succeeds Miami Marlins Jazz second baseman Chisholm Jr., who was on the cover of MLB The Show last year.

Among the players who have had this honor over the years are Shohei Ohtani, Fernando Tatis Jr., Bryce Harper, Aaron Judge, Ken Griffey Jr., Javier Baez and Yasiel Puig. Josh Donaldson, formerly with the Blue Jays, ended up on the game cover MLB The Show 16.

Former Blue Jays players Marcus Stroman, Aaron Sanchez, Russell Martin, Brett Lawrie and Jose Bautista all graced the cover art for the Canadian version of the game.

There will only be one athlete on the cover this year: Guerrero.

The son of the former Montreal Expos star is one of 18 players who will be eligible for salary arbitration, a process that began Tuesday and ends Feb. 16 in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Guerrero demands a salary of 19.9 million US, while the Toronto club offers him 18.05 million.
