Unusual Cyclo-Cross Course in Benidorm Raises Questions for Riders

The lightning fast course in Benidorm was slightly different from what the cyclo-cross riders have been faced with all season. But they are not really fans.

Mud prevailed on almost every course this season and the riders had to struggle. In Benidorm this was not the case at all. On the bone-dry and fast course, we had to watch out for falls.

Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel, among others, fell to the ground. Van der Poel was not a big fan of the course. “In my opinion, there is no need for more courses like this,” he said Cycling flash.

Not exaggerate

Belgian champion Eli Iserbyt, who narrowly missed the podium in fourth, shared that opinion. He believes that Benidorm should certainly remain on the calendar, even if there were fewer rounds next season.

“But I don’t like to see an extra course like this. It’s a city cross – on a super tricky course – and one of them is enough for the World Cup, just like one race in the snow is enough. I think it’s so it’s the perfect combination.”
