[NPB]Registration quota expanded again this season. 31 people registered to participate, 5 foreigners, etc. due to infectious disease special exceptions instead of coronavirus special exceptions
Professional baseball will be held with an increased number of registration slots this season as well. The special coronavirus exemption from 2020 ended last season. Instead, this season we will introduce a “special case for infectious diseases.” Similar to the coronavirus special regulations, the number of registered players will be reduced from 29 to 31, the number of players on the bench will be reduced from 25 to 26, and the number of registered foreigners will be reduced from 4 to 5. If a person’s registration is canceled due to suspicion of having an infectious disease, but it is determined that they are not infected, they can be re-registered within 10 days.
The wording was still being finalized, and no official decision was made at the board of directors/executive committee of the 12 baseball teams and the Japan Baseball Organization (NPB) on the 22nd. However, NPB Secretary-General Ihara predicted that an announcement would be made before the opening, saying, “Let’s finalize it in March. Our thinking hasn’t changed.”
