Toulouse refuels in Ulster and secures its qualification for the Champions Cup

In the Champions Cup, Stade Toulousain is unplayable. After Cardiff (52-7) and Harlequins (19-47), it is Ulster’s turn to be subjected to the law of the reigning French champion. The Toulouse residents enjoyed another victory with a big victory in Ireland (24-48) on Saturday evening, with seven tries up for grabs.

Toulouse attacked the first period effectively. After a very intense first sequence of two minutes from the locals, the Toulouse residents got their hands on the ball and scored a first try in a splendid action. Touch, penetrating group then Dupont who serves his rear, with a magnificent kick from Ramos for Lebel who only has to flatten (10th). Great art. Especially since it was Stade Toulousain’s first foray into the opponent’s twenty-two meters.

Ugo Mola’s men continued to attack and, although they left one or two munitions on poor transmissions, they proved their superiority in conquest. Well helped by their second line Meafou, still very prominent, Stade Toulousain crossed the goal line a second time by Mauvaka on a penetrating school group after a penalty five meters from the line (31st) .

This first act bordered on perfection when, on a recovery ball, the Toulouse took advantage of two plays at the foot of Dupont to find themselves near the Ulstermen line. After a bad dismissal, Jelonch broke through the Irish defensive curtain. The play after contact did the rest. Mauvaka well launched by Jelonch served Dupont in an armchair. The scrum half just had to flatten between the poles and make the break (35th, 3-22). Unfortunately, on the last action of the first period, Ulster reacted strongly with Stewart (40th + 2, 10-22).

Dupont and Mauvaka in international form

Stade Toulousain demonstrated its efficiency again in the second half. After a messy first five minutes, the Rouge et Noir took advantage of a good scratch and a recovery ball to hurt their opponent. The Kinghorn guard accelerated and dropped to the center of the court before serving… Guess who? Yes, Antoine Dupont inside. Doubled for the captain of Stade Toulousain, synonymous with an offensive bonus (47th).

Less than ten minutes later, it was Mauvaka’s turn to score a double, but above all to seal the victory for his team (53rd, 10-34). The forty points were reached no less than four minutes later following the Rouge et Noir’s sixth try, this time signed by Roumat (57th). Despite a bit of relaxation after the hour mark, synonymous with two tries conceded, Stade Toulousain did not tremble. The Toulouse residents even scored a final strong try through Meafou (80th+1). Qualification for the round of 16 is already in hand before hosting Bath next Sunday (4:15 p.m.).
