The operations department of the current National and Caribbean Champions, Tigres del Licey, announced this Sunday morning the hiring of Gio Urshela as its new reinforcement for the continuation of the Round Robin of the 2023-2024 Season of the Liga de Professional Baseball of the Dominican Republic (LIDOM).
“Urshela will arrive in the country this Monday and will be ready to suit up with the champions,” declared the general manager of the organization, Audo Vicente, in relation to the well-known Colombian player.
Urshela has eight seasons of experience in the Major Leagues, where he has worn the colors of the Cleveland Guardians, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Angels.
Throughout those eight years in Major League Baseball (MLB), the 32-year-old infielder has posted a .277 batting average with 64 home runs, 280 RBIs, seven stolen bases and a .745 OPS in total. of 2,194 official at-bats.
It should be noted that this will not be Urshela’s first experience in Dominican winter baseball, as it was during the 2018-2019 Regular Season Series when the right-handed hitter saw action with the blue team in 26 games.
