Thirtieth Edition of Italian Cup of Wheelchair Basketball to be Held in Porto Torres

The thirtieth edition of the competition will be held on Sunday 28 January Italian Cup of wheelchair basketball, at the end of a Final Four which will start on the afternoon of Saturday 27 January at the Palasport Alberto Mura of Porto Torres. Competing for the trophy dedicated to the professor’s memory Antonio Maglio will be the four best-placed teams at the end of the first round of the Serie A regular season: the UnipolSai Briantea84 Cantù winner of Group A, the Italian champions of Deco Metalferro Friends Abruzzo winners of Group B, the Dinamo Lab Banco di Sardegna and the team that lifted the trophy last year, the S. Stefano Kos Group.

The program kicks off on Saturday 27 January at 4pm with the first semi-final between UnipolSai Briantea84 Cantù e Deco Metalferro Friends Abruzzo; at 6.30 pm the second semi-final between S. Stefano Kos Group e Dinamo Lab Banco di Sardegnare-edition of the final that awarded the cup in March 2023.

Both semi-finals will be filmed and broadcast live on Directa Sport and broadcast on the social channels of the Italian Wheelchair Basketball Federation.

The consolation final for third place will be held on Sunday at 9am, while starting from 11.30am it will be the turn of the grand final (which will be broadcast on Rai Sport deferred at 4pm).
In the competition’s roll of honour, Briantea84 is the most successful team present in Porto Torres, with eight overall victories (behind Santa Lucia Roma, who won the Italian Cup 12 times).

The Cantù team missed the final last year for the first time in 9 years and had won six victories in the last seven editions. S. Stefano has won two victories (in 2021 and 2023, at the end of a very tight final against Dinamo Lab), while the Italian champions Amicacci Abruzzo have never lifted the national cup.

The event will be hosted by Palasport Alberto Mura Of Porto Torres, home of the GSD Porto Torres, structure with 1136 seats. It is the second consecutive edition that will be played in this facility, which on 10 and 11 February will also be the venue for the concentration of the salvation playouts (with Comes Boys Taranto, Santa Lucia Roma and Gsd Porto Torres on the pitch).
