Sunday 21 January the competitive year of the Judo section from the Riccione sports club. The athletes of Maestro Giuseppe Longo they competed in a beautiful competition, a classic of northern Italian judo, the 15th City of Lavis Trophy (Trent), with over 120 clubs e 1,200 athletes in two days.
Sofia Longo participated in cat. under 18 peso 44 kg. The young athlete would normally have competed in the 40 kg, but the absence of top-level athletes in that category has directed the technical direction towards the 44 kg, so as to put Sofia in difficult conditions and test the preparation of the athlete she has planned three very difficult races in the next four weeks: an Italian Grand Prix in Lignano and two European Cup races in Follonica and Fuengirola (Spain).
Sofia passed the test brilliantly, winning three out of three matches and winning a oro unexpected. “Sofia offered a good level of judo and athletic training. Her opponents were heavier and in some cases much taller (a characteristic that Sofia suffers from). You managed the matches well, coming out of difficult situations, building technical and tactical situations that lived up to the season’s ambitions.” explains the DT, Master Giuseppe Longo.
The other athlete in the race was Jiahui Lin, a very young athlete with a still limited level of experience, but with a great aptitude for fighting. Jahui with his yellow belt faced the 81 kg under 15. It was his first experience in this new age group. “Despite losing three fights, Jahui showed excellent potential. We will have a lot to work on, but we are sure that within a few years, with consistency and commitment he could become a star of Riccione judo” comments the teacher Longo.
