Around midnight on Sunday, at the TSM Corona stadium in Torreón, a group of Monterrey fans was hit by a gray pick-up truck that was traveling at excess speed and diverted its path when it collided with a taxi on the old road to San Pedro. There were members of the main Rayados entertainment group, but also families who made the bus trip to the Liga Mx match against Santos.

State authorities confirmed the death of a 54-year-old woman, as well as at least five injured people, including Octavio de León Cruz, 50 years old; Edson Fernando Robledo Alonso, 26; Natally Sarahí Ovalle Téllez, 27, and the minor Emilio Jared, 14, who suffered minor injuries and is reported to be out of danger.

The Attorney General’s Office of Coahuila is investigating the hypothesis of a road accident in which the truck collided with a taxi parked at door 7 of the building and was projected towards a corn stand, where there were Rayados followers waiting for the bus to return to Nuevo. Lion.

“After 40 to 50 minutes that we were outside, the van with people from Santos passed by and we rayaron Mother. We answer. But suddenly we saw that she made a U-turn, accelerated, collided with a taxi and swerved, running over many people,” witnesses recount in a second version of the events.

According to prosecutor Gerardo Márquez Guevara, the multiple collision has no relation to an alleged conflict between the cheering groups of both teams.

At the moment, six people – including a woman – are in custody for situations associated with the incidents, such as resistance from individuals. There are two who could eventually be the driver of the vehicle, she added.

In a video broadcast on social networks, the minor Emilio Jared, son of the woman who died at the scene, ruled out that it was an accident, in the same way as other injured people. They ran me over along with my mother and Tavo, my father. Those from Santos ran over us, they started. We were eating corn, but suddenly the truck came and took us away, he explained, still with blood on his forehead.

Delineate responsibilities

The two teams, Santos and Monterrey, regretted the events in a statement and made themselves available to the authorities to find those responsible. In turn, a delegation from the Liga Mx, headed by the security director, Héctor Canchola, had a joint meeting with directors of the La Laguna club and other officials to clarify the measures to be taken as a result of the investigations.

Once responsibilities are determined by the competent authorities, we will act accordingly and will be very attentive to the victims, explained the tournament owner, Mikel Arriola.

While the first investigations were beginning, Mrs. María del Rosario Mercado Gallegos traveled from Monterrey to Torreón upon learning of the death of her sister Maribel. They are saying it was an accident and that is not true. We want justice to be done, she assured one of the hypotheses being investigated by the state prosecutor’s office. The boy or guy who was driving the truck crashed into the taxi, then turned around and hit them. That’s the version that everyone knows, I don’t know why they want to change it.

Without mentioning names or origins, the Santos board announced that those allegedly responsible for the accident were arrested. We trust the local authorities to promptly follow up on the investigation, the statement said. It is not the first time that the TSM Corona has been the scene of violent events. In 2011, 40 minutes into a League match, the Guerreros and Monarcas Morelia players stampeded toward the locker room after a shootout with long weapons in the vicinity of the building. The game was suspended, with thousands of people taking refuge in the stands. No injuries were reported.
