The United States Department of Transportation (DOT) revealed that it will not renew the antitrust immunity under which Delta and Aeroméxico currently operate a codeshare agreement.
The US decision comes after the Government of Mexico made radical changes at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) following the decree to prohibit cargo flights at the air complex.
Last year, it was decided to move cargo flights from AICM to Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) with the aim of increasing its low air traffic, however, the DOT determined that such actions are detrimental to existing carriers and potential new entrants.
The decision is pending a final ruling, the department said, adding that the companies tentatively have until Oct. 26 to close their joint venture.
