The Texans secured a place in the NFL playoffs after beating the Colts

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Rookie quarterback CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans clinched a playoff berth with a 23-19 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday, thanks to Devin Singletary, who scored the go-ahead touchdown in a 3-yard run with 6:20 left.

The Texans (10-7) are going to the postseason for the first time since 2019. They have won seven of their last 10 games and could still win the AFC South division if Jacksonville loses at Tennessee this Sunday.

Indianapolis (9-8) was eliminated from the fight for the playoffs, which it has not reached since 2020.

Stroud completed 20 of 26 passes with 264 yards and two touchdowns. Nico Collins had nine catches for 195 yards and a score, and Singletary had 64 yards on 24 carries.

After Taylor’s 49-yard touchdown run and a nifty 2-point conversion, Colts coach Shane Steichen banked on Matt Gay’s 57-yard field goal that hit the right upright.

Houston moved into scoring position and took a 17-14 lead on a 51-yard pass from Ka’imi Fairbairn with 3:29 left in the third.

Indy tied it with a 35-yard field goal by Gay on the next drive, but Stroud responded with a drive that ended with a 3-yard touchdown run by Singletary.
