Andrei Rublev Claims First Title of the Season at Hong Kong Open

The Russian Andrei Rublev, number five in the world ranking, achieved the first title of the season by winning the 250 Hong Kong Open, in which he beat the Finn Emil Ruusuvuori in the final 6-4 and 6-4 in one hour and eighteen minutes.

Rublev had a good match summed up in 74% points won on service, 69% successes on the first serve, six unforced errors to thirteen of his rival and no double faults to four of Ruusuvuori.

The Russian tennis player reached the final after beating the British Liam Broady in the round of 16, the Frenchman Arthur Fils in the quarterfinals and the Chinese Shang Juncheng in the semifinals, an 18-year-old player who was the revelation of the tournament.

Rublev played the 24th final of his career, of which he has won, with this one in Hong Kong, fifteen. Last season he competed in four finals and won two titles, both on clay, in Bastad (Sweden) and Monte Carlo. For Ruusuvuori, 37th in the world ranking, this was his second final on the ATP circuit after the one he played in Pune (India) in 2022. On that occasion he lost in three sets to the Portuguese Joao Sousa.
