The Poor Condition of Lotto Park Pitch and Anderlecht’s Plans for Improvement

The poor quality of the Lotto Park pitch is primarily due to a disease which prevented it from developing as expected during the summer months. The Belgian weather didn’t help. Between the temperature differences, heavy rain and snow, the grass has not yet been able to grow back as Anderlecht hoped. The RSCA did its best by installing new lights to speed up photosynthesis as well as purchasing new covers to protect Lotto Park.

Here’s why Anderlecht hopes to keep its current pitch despite its poor condition

There was talk of changing the lawn. Anderlecht brought in world-renowned specialists for an audit. Everyone explained that a total replacement was unnecessary. And Sporting doesn’t have the funds to throw tickets out the window. At the end of the season, Anderlecht could be content to simply cut the top layer of its turf as it does every summer. The risk is that this will not be enough. There is currently talk of carrying out a more in-depth treatment and replacing the entire lawn as well as the synthetic fibers found in the pitch. The only obstacle is the budget. A complete change is estimated at 800,000 euros. A huge cost but Anderlecht plans to comply.
