The 2024 Sporting Calendar: A Year Packed with International and Local Events

After a 2023 full of exciting moments in the sporting environment, it is time to start the new calendar. The 2024 agenda will be loaded with local and international events, including the Olympic Games in Paris, France, where a handful of athletes will gallantly represent Puerto Rico. So make a note in your diary so you don’t miss a second.

January

2: The semifinal series of the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League begins.

5: The Three Kings Day 5K in San Germán from 4:00 to 7:00 pm

12: The final of the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League begins.

13: Run or Trail 5K at the National Guard installations in the Pozuelo neighborhood in Guayama, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm

14: Edition 29 of the 10K San Antonio Abad in Añasco, from 4:00 pm

14 to 28: Australian Open tennis.

18: The Women’s Superior Volleyball League tournament is scheduled to begin.

9:30 p.m.: 5K Colegio Ponceño from 4:30 p.m.

23: The Baseball Hall of Fame will reveal the results of the voting process for the 2024 class. Puerto Rican Carlos Beltrán appeared for the second time on the ballot of candidates to be immortalized.

25: The 53rd edition of the Eclipse Equestrian Awards will be at The Breakers Palm Beach.

27: 5K Night Run Trailfesta at Julio Monagan Park in Bayamón from 7:00 pm

27: Oscar Collazo will risk the WBO belt at 105 pounds against the Nicaraguan Reyneris Gutierrez at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

1 to 9: Caribbean Baseball Series at loanDepot Park in Miami, Florida. The ninth champions of the tournaments in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic will participate, as well as Curacao, Nicaragua and Panama as guests.

8: Two-time world champion José “Sniper” Pedraza will face Keyshawn Davis in Las Vegas, Nevada.

8: Last day to make player changes in the NBA.

8 to 11: In the city of Xian, in China, the Women’s Basketball Olympic Qualifying Tournament (FIBA) will be held and Puerto Rico will look for a space there towards Paris 2024.

11: Super Bowl LVII will be at Alleguant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.

16: Xander Zayas will enter the ring to face former world champion Patrick at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York.

16 to 18: NBA regular season break for activities related to the All-Star Game in Indianapolis, Indiana.

18: The regular phase of Beisbol Superior Nacional Double A begins.

March 22 to 2: World Surfing Games (ISA World Surfing Games) in Arecibo. The event will be the final stage of surfing qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. 14 places will be awarded: five for men, seven for women and two places per team.

24: Super middleweight Edgar Berlanga will face Padraig McCrory at Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida.

25: 10K Llanero in Toa Baja from 6:30 am

3: Edition 62 of the Medium Marathon San Blas in Coamo.

7 to 10: Puerto Rico Open at the Gran Reserve Country Club in Río Grande.

17: IronMan 70.3 Puerto Rico.

17: Edition 28 of the 5K in Familia San Patrico from 5:00 pm

28: Date for the regular Major League Baseball (MLB) schedule to begin.

April

2: The regular season of the men’s National Superior Basketball begins.

5 and 7: NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four from Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio.

6 and 8: NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four from State Farm Stadium in Glandale, Arizona.

6 and 7: WrestleMania XL will be a two-night event at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

14: The NBA regular season concludes.

15: Major League Baseball (MLB) Jackie Robinson Day

16-19: NBA Qualifying Tournament. The teams with the ninth and 10th best records in each conference will have to win two consecutive games to earn a postseason berth.

17-27: The Sports Festival of the second semester of the Interuniversity Athletic League (LAI), including the Athletics Jousts, will be in Mayagüez.

20: The NBA playoffs begin.

20: The Diamond League Athletics season begins with a competition in Xiamen, China.

27: Second stop of the Diamond Athletics League in Shanghai, China.

27-28: Series between the Houston Astros and the Colorado Rockies will take place at the Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium in Mexico City, Mexico.

4: First leg of the Triple Crown of American horse racing with the Kentucky Derby.

5: Puerto Rico 10K Run over the Teodoro Moscoso Bridge from 6:00 am

6 and 7: The NBA Conference semifinal series will begin.

10: Diamond League stop in Doha, Qatar.

18: It will be the Preakness, the second event of the Triple Crown of horse racing at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland.

25: Diamond League Competitions in Eugene, Oregon.

June 26 to 9: French Open tennis at Roland Garros.

30: Diamond League stop in Oslo, Norway.

1: UEFA Champions League Final at Wembley Stadium in London.

4: First stage of the draw for new MLB players. The Cleveland Guardians will be the first to choose. The process will end on July 13.

6 to 9: Iván Calderón will become the twelfth Puerto Rican fighter to be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. They will also recognize Ricky Hatton, Michael Moore and Diego Corrales, among others.

6: The NBA Final Series begins.

8: Close the Triple Crown of horse racing with the Belmont Stakes.

8-9: The New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies will participate in a series in London.

July 20 to 14: Copa América soccer with the participation of 16 nations, 10 from CONMEBOL and six from CONCACAF, divided into 14 venues in the United States.

20: The San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals will play at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama, in honor of the Negro Leagues and Willie Mays.

29: The Tour de France begins.

30: Diamond League event in Lausanne, Switzerland.

12: Diamond League stop in Monaco.

16: MLB All-Star Game from Global Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

20: Diamond League competitions in London.

21: Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown, New York.

August 26 to 11: Paris Olympic Games, 2024

September 28 to 10: US Open Tennis in New York.

30: Diamond League event in Rome, Italy.

5: Diamond League event in Zurich, Switzerland.

13-14: Diamond League events in Brussels, Belgium.

15: All 30 MLB teams will play on Roberto Clemente Day, including the Pittsburgh Pirates hosting the Kansas City Royals at PNC Park.

29: The regular phase of Major League Baseball ends.

The MLB World Series is scheduled to start late in October and a seventh game would be on November 4.

November

3: The New York Marathon will take place.

10 to 24: The third edition of the Premier 12 tournament, the event is the most important on the international baseball calendar that awards the most points to the WBSC ranking. Joining Puerto Rico will be the teams from Japan, Mexico, the United States, South Korea, Taiwan, Venezuela, the Netherlands, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Panama and Australia.

Baseball

December

On a date to be determined, the Caribbean Equestrian Classic will take place.
