Jared Goff, the first pick of the draft who could never lead the Rams to the top in five seasons, and Matthew Stafford, another quarterback who was taken with the first selection and who in 12 years was never able to change the face of a Lions marked by defeat, will be seen the faces in the wild card duels.

On Sunday, Stafford and Goff will have a chance to show their former team that they made the wrong decision, when the Rams sent Goff and three picks from the draft to Detroit in exchange for the services of the Lions quarterback.

Since then, Stafford took one year to deliver the Super Bowl trophy to Los Angeles, while Goff gave the Lions something they had not obtained in more than 30 years: a division title.

For Goff, however, the duel goes beyond showing Carneros (10-7) that they made a mistake by getting rid of him. It is a historical question. It’s been 32 years since the Lions won a playoff game, and now that they have the fifth-best offense and a coach in Dan Campbell who isn’t afraid to take risks, the opportunity is in front of them.

Cold reception

For his part, Miami wide receiver Tyreek Hill can expect anything on his return to Kansas City, except a warm welcome. The NFL’s leading receiver (1,799 yards) spent the first six years of his career with the Chiefs and won a Super Bowl in 2020 before being traded to the Dolphins for the 2022 season. He has not returned to Kansas City since, where A cold reception awaits you.

Forecasts indicate temperatures between -17 and -22 degrees Celsius for Saturday night in Kansas.

The wild card round begins when the Browns (11-6) travel to the Texans (10-7). For Cleveland, quarterback Joe Flacco has seven career road wins in the postseason, the most of all time, tied with Tom Brady. Houston, meanwhile, became the first team in the Super Bowl era to win its division with a rookie quarterback and head coach.

The action will continue Sunday at noon with the visit of the Steelers (10-7) to Buffalo (11-6). Later, Green Bay (9-8) travels to Dallas (12-5).

The first round of the postseason concludes Monday night, when Tampa Bay (9-8) hosts Philadelphia.
