Slovak Ski Star Petra Vlhová Forced to End Season Early Due to Injury

Slovak ski star Petra Vlhová, who was injured during a World Cup race in her native country, has to undergo surgery. The 2023/24 season is over for her, she could only get back on the slopes in September, but this is a very optimistic plan. Her coach Mauro Pini confirmed it.

At the home race of the Alpine Skiing World Cup, Petra Vlhová should have been the biggest star. Instead, however, she got injured and her season ended. The details of her injury and the treatment process were given by her coach Mauro Pini at a press conference. For example, the website offered a transcription of his words sport.sk.

Vlhová traveled to Switzerland, where she decided to undergo an examination with the team of renowned doctor Olivier Siegrist. He will also undergo surgery there, as soon as possible. Coach Pini said he has some damage to his meniscus and a strained medial collateral ligament.

“We were in Switzerland to see a top expert in this matter. We received all the necessary information, Petra was satisfied and knows what awaits her. She is currently at home and relaxing,” said coach Pini.

It will be most demanding in February, March and April. It can be said that we will have a normal preparation from May. We could be back on the slopes in September. That’s just an assumption though, we’ll see how it goes,” added the Swiss coach of the Olympic champion.

The Slovak star once again had a very good start to the season and was in second place behind Mikaela Shiffrin in the current World Cup ranking. She also left behind Lara Gutová-Behramiová and Federica Brignoneová.

Compared to previous years, however, he is lucky that the Olympic Games and the World Championships are not taking place this year, so he will not miss any big highlights of the season.

I’m glad that I proved that I belong to the top again, said Ledecká after winning the WC:
