Serie A: previews of the 20th matchday

Clear success for Simone Inzaghi’s Inter, who strolls over Monza and momentarily extends their lead on Juventus in first place in the standings. The doubles from Calhanoglu and Lautaro – with a penalty each – and Thuram’s final goal deny any reaction to a Monza team that partially returned to the game in the last twenty minutes with Pessina’s goal from the penalty spot.

A resounding start for the NerazzurriThat they crush immediately Monza and after ten minutes, on Lautaro’s header, they find the touch of the hand from Gagliardini which is worth the penalty kick then signaled by the VAR. From the spot it is Calhanoglu who wrong-foots Sorrentino and puts his team ahead. They didn’t even have time to celebrate before Inzaghi’s team actually doubled their lead, again with Lautaro Martinez as the protagonist in attacking the depth and netting Dimarco’s perfect serve from the left. Possible key episode on the half hour mark, with Colpani’s free kick and Pessina’s winning header from Caldirola’s deflection which however did not result in the 1-2 goal due to the millimeter offside by the former Atalanta player himself.

First half archived and second half in which Inter manage the advantage and, in the 60th minute, he also scores the third goal: a maneuvered action that leads to Mkhitaryan’s escape, Thuram’s backheel and Calhanoglu’s sure shot which makes it 3-0 and a brace for the Turk. The game seemed to be over, but just nine minutes later Darmian’s foul on Mota in the area allowed Monza to close the gap thanks to a perfectly executed penalty kick by Pessina. A 1-3 before which Inter did not lose their composure and clearly went on to return to the pitch, with the new substitute Frattesi brought down in the area by Akpa Akpro: another penalty for the Nerazzurri this time scored by Lautaro who dropped the poker and his personal double. In the final minutes there was also room for Inter’s fifth goal which was scored by Thuram, who managed to latch on to Mkhitaryan’s throw, dribble past Caldirola and seal the result at the U-Power Stadium.

Djuric and Ngonge: the salvation challenge goes to Verona

Bentegodi’s survival challenge against Empoli goes to Verona. The Venetians won 2-1 thanks to goals from Djuric at the start and from Ngonge in the second half, with Zurkowski then closing the gap. The yellow-blue team started off strong straight away and after less than three minutes they took the lead. Duda kicks a corner from the right finding Djuric, who heads it home to make it 1-0 with the help of the crossbar. The Tuscans didn’t have it and a few moments later they came close to equalizing with Shpendi, avoided by an excellent defensive recovery by Magnani in a slide that fouled a safe shot from the Albanian attacker for a corner. Andreazzoli’s men came close to making it 1-1 again in the 34th minute, when Grassi kicked a free kick just wide from the edge of the area. After a lively first part of the match, in the final half the pace slowed down and the two teams went to half-time with a 1-0 lead.

At the start of the second half the fog thickens and the Scaligeri become dangerous after just four minutes. Serdar enters the area, wins a couple of rebounds and goes for a shot with his left foot but Caprile saves in the corner. However, the Empoli goalkeeper had to capitulate in the 11th minute. Ngonge starts from the right, moves the ball to the left and kicks finding the 2-0 at the near post also taking advantage of a deflection from Luperto which deceives his goalkeeper. The match seems to be on its way, but in the 19th minute the guests close the gap. Bereszynski crosses from the right and finds the perfect header from the newly introduced Zurkowski, who pierces Montipò for the 2-1 which reopens everything. The blue and whites poured into attack and in the 26th minute they came close to equalizing when Luperto, after a melee in the area, finished just wide with his left foot. In the 42nd minute, Duda gets his second yellow card and is sent off. The final assault by Andreazzoli’s team does not have the desired effects and the result will never change again. At the referee’s final whistle, Verona can celebrate, thus gaining three fundamental points with a view to survival, thanks to which they rise to 17 points, temporarily leaving the relegation zone. However, the defeat was heavy for Empoli, who remain in penultimate position with 13 points.

Naples thrilling, Rrahmani kicks in injury time and Salernitana are beaten

The 30th Campania derby between Napoli and Salernitana ends in the advance of the twentieth matchday of Serie A: the Neapolitans score with Rrahmani in injury time to win a match that seemed destined for a draw. The first half of the match remained blocked until the 29th minute when Candreva moved the result with the champion’s classic play: Bradaric received the ball in the midfield and he gives it to number 87 grenade who first dribbles Politano and then kick the ball into the top corner with a right footed shot from outside the area. At 45’+4′ the Azzurri equalised: foul by Fazio on Simeone in the penalty area and perfect conversion by Politano from 11 metres.

In the second half the pace increases and the match is more enjoyable. Napoli is eager to find the opening goal, especially with Kvaratskhelia, but Ochoa seems unbeatable: in particular, in the 90’+4′ minute when he makes a double great intervention first on the Georgian and then on Raspadori’s tap-in. After 2′ Rrahmani receives the ball from Demme in the penalty area during a free kick: the Napoli defender only has to push the ball into the net and does so with great clarity, giving Napoli the victory in the derby and three very precious points.

No goals for Genoa-Turin

Genoa and Turin didn’t get hurt: the 0-0 at Marassi fully reflected a balanced match, played at a slow pace and full of technical errors. Genoa are slightly better on points if we consider the opportunities created; Turin, however, he has the merit of remaining compact in defence and emerge with a point from a treacherous away match. As for the lineups, Genoa finds Retegui on the pitch from the first minute, while Torino confirms the Sanabria-Zapata attacking tandem. The first half of the game passed without much emotion: both teams were well placed on the pitch, but struggled to raise the pace of the action.

There is no shortage of technical errors in the middle of the fieldabove all at home in Turin. The best opportunities of the first half came to Gilardino’s Genoa, thanks to the creativity of Gudmundsson and Malinovskyi. After five minutes, the Icelander receives the assist of Messias and shoots to the near post, but is met with opposition by Milinkovic-Savic’s feet. In the 22nd minute it was the Ukrainian playmaker’s turn kicks powerfully from outside the area: also in this case the Granata goalkeeper puts his big hand in and deflects it over the crossbar. In the final, Torino also appears in the offensive zone, with a header from Zapata, deflected for a corner by Messias. Balance also reigned in the second half with the two teams struggling to develop the game on the flanks and to involve the strikers in the maneuver.

Genoa tries to hit using the house specialty, or free kicks: within two minutes of the 63rd minute, following a corner, both De Winter and Vasquez have a header. Torino shakes itself off and comes close to taking the lead in the 67th minute, thanks to Sanabria’s header. finished just above the crossbar. In the final quarter of an hour tiredness inevitably sets in and Genoa are the ones who pay the price, with no offensive alternatives on the bench. Genoa’s last shout was Malinovskyi’s direct free kick in the 86th minute, neutralized without problems by Milinkovic-Savic. Torino gives the impression of being satisfied with a draw and does not force its hand, avoiding unnecessary risks. With this draw, Genoa obtained their sixth consecutive home result, rising to 22 points in the standings; on the other hand, Torino remains tenth, with six points more than the rossoblù.
