Russian Player Kotov’s Outburst and Victory at Australian Open Court 6

The spectators on Court 6 at Melbourne Park acknowledged the Russian’s outburst with loud boos.

During his first round match at the Australian Open against Arthur Rinderknech, Kotov had a score of 7:5, 6:1, 6:7 (6:8), 6:7 (5:7) and 40:40 after a supposedly easy forehand Error: out of frustration, he fired the ball with full force against the back boards.

He gave a ball girl who was standing nearby a great scare. Although the ball fortunately missed her, the girl immediately threw her hands in front of her face and turned to the side to protect herself.

It wasn’t the only excitement in that game: Rinderknech had already complained during the match about the audience, which, according to his own statements, repeatedly disturbed him with loud heckling during his service games.

Kotov is in round two

At the end of that controversial match, Kotov came out on top. The 25-year-old ultimately won the decisive fifth set and was happy about making it into the second round of the first Grand Slam tournament of the year. Next opponent of the world number 55. is the Italian Flavio Cobolli.
