“The Hertha family mourns with Kay’s survivors and is thinking of his family, friends and companions during this difficult time,” the message continued. The club asked that “the family’s privacy be respected following this terrible event.”
The former Ultra was only elected president of the club at a general meeting in June 2022. At that time, the entrepreneur was surprisingly able to prevail against the favored CDU politician Frank Steffel and another competitor. Bernstein succeeded Werner Gegenbauer, who resigned due to Hertha’s lack of success.
