Royal Antwerp does not accept the worldwide suspension of Marc Overmars, writes Algemeen Dagblad. On Tuesday, FIFA took over the suspension – which initially only applied in the Netherlands – as a result of which Overmars will probably have to resign from his work as technical director in Antwerp.

“It is still not clear whether Marc Overmars will continue to practice as technical director at FC Antwerp,” the medium begins the story. According to Algemeen Dagblad, ‘both his Belgian club and his spokesperson’ are still considering the reasons given by the World Football Association for taking over the suspension of the ISR.

Overmars was suspended for a year in the Netherlands due to inappropriate behavior at Ajax. Because this suspension only applied in the Netherlands, the director was able to continue his work at Royal Antwerp. Now that FIFA has taken over the suspension, Overmars can no longer work there either. ‘However, Antwerp and Frank Neervoort, spokesman for Overmars, do not want to accept this yet. They first want FIFA to substantiate the grounds on which the ruling has been adopted.’

‘Marc lives for football, he loves it’

Neervoort does not want to say whether the technical director is currently still working for the reigning champion and cup holder of Belgium. ‘We will first work on the substantiation. After studying this we will know more. How Overmars responded? I haven’t spoken to him, but Marc lives for football, he loves it. He will not be satisfied with this,” the spokesperson said.
