“Our gentlemen Teun and Yannic were immediately allowed to play in the men’s doubles against Nick Fransman and Dicky Palyama. The gentlemen from drop shot were immediately well into the match and did not waste any time. In the second set, Teun and Yannic got a little more control over the game of the opponents, but the deficit was too big to win a set. Nick and Dicky won the match 13-21 / 18-21.
Maureen and Lieke competed against Iris van Leijsen and Kelly van Buiten. This turned out to be a nice game that was evenly matched in both sets up to 11. After that, some mistakes crept in with Maureen and Lieke, where Iris and Kelly showed impact resistance. The win went to drop shot 14-21/16-21. Score 0-2.
Rune played the second men’s single against Lars Kros. A quick reunion for both gentlemen. Just under two weeks ago they met each other in the semi-finals of the Schijndel tournament. While Lars came out on top in three sets at the Schijndel tournament, Rune was the winner of the match today. He showed good play and played well, the first victory point for 2dA Smashing was a fact 21-19/21-15.
Leonie played her single against Natalia Perminova. Natalia has a creditable badminton history, including a bronze medal at the European Junior Champion Chips. She had to put her racket aside for a while in 2023 for the birth of her son. Natalia played powerfully and left little to no room for Leonie to come up with good tactics. Great rallies were played, which unfortunately often went in Natalia’s favor. The win went to drop shot 6-21/7-21. Score 1-3.
Casper fought for what he was worth against Nick. Casper had to come in, especially in the first set, but after that nice rallies were played. Nick looked fit, made few mistakes and managed to win, mainly thanks to his sharp net play, 3-21/5-21.
Maureen played against Novi Wieland. The shuttles came off Novi’s racket a bit more nervously than usual so we hoped that Maureen could take advantage of this. It was a hard-fought match that went evenly, with Novi still managing to take the win in the end 17-21/18-21. Score 1-5.
Both mixes were won by the opponents. Yannic and Leonie played too inconsistently to really offer any resistance against Lars and Kelly (12-21/14-21). Teun and Lieke also lost in two sets against Dicky and Iris (13-21/12-21). Final score 1-7.
The next match is Saturday, January 13, 7:00 PM against Paul Knip Keukens Roosterse BV. At home in ‘t Achterom. After the match (+/- 9:30 PM) Smashing will organize a New Year’s drink to toast the new year. It promises to be an evening full of exciting competitions and a lot of fun.
