The Champagnais discover a sporting discipline this January 12 during the greeting ceremony (“Sud Ouest” on January 17), with Arnaud Le Toux, a young 49-year-old veteran who comes to present his sport, racketeering: “I started around 6-7 years old practicing table tennis, and over the course of the competitions, I reached a national level ranking. And then without abandoning my favorite sport, I evolved in a structure where I could intensively practice tennis, badminton, squash, in short, racket sports, “from the lightest ball to the heaviest”, where I wanted to progress! One racket per sport is humbling: I can have my 21 points in the table tennis event, the maximum, and lose my advantage in one of the three following rounds, like squash, where I train. enormously ! You obviously have to stay focused and hyper sharp in each sport. »

From northern Europe

Although still confidential, since created in 2001, the discipline, which comes straight from the countries of northern Europe, has hosted many tournaments in France since 2015. A team is made up of five athletes including one woman. Arnaud is currently, individually, 31st French with a total of 2,993 points in nine tournaments. His team brilliantly distinguished itself in Rochefort in June, and especially in Rotterdam at the world championships in August 2023 where 500 athletes from around thirty nations competed, and which allowed Arnaud to win with his team in the senior category + 45-year-old (veterans) the hotly contested title of world champion.

A high school physics-chemistry teacher, Arnaud is a member of the Royan club and also plays badminton in Pont-l’Abbé. He benefits from the encouragement of Christophe Gatignol, his patron based in Angoulême, real support in a precise schedule, in-depth training in each sport and frequent tournaments: next competition in La Roche-sur-Yon at the beginning of March.
