Philadelphia Eagles’ Playoff Potential Despite Injuries

Philadelphia could make the playoffs without AJ Brown, and perhaps with a diminished Jalen Hurts.

New York Giants (6-11) – Philadelphia Eagles (11-6) : 27-10

The bye week obviously didn’t do Philadelphia any good. Among the best teams in the NFC conference with the 49ers, the Eagles are completely disillusioned at the end of the season. Against their division rival New York, they recorded their 5th defeat in 6 games.

This defeat can have serious consequences, since the Eagles may have lost their best receiver AJ Brown for the rest of the season. Jalen Hurts (7/16, 55 yards, INT) also did not come out of the game unscathed with a finger injury. The Eagles therefore let slip a division that was holding out its arms to them, in favor of the Dallas Cowboys.

New York offers its division rival for the first time since the 2021 season. After their best period of the season, the Giants then managed to win. A victory on which Brian Daboll and his staff can build to build great momentum for next season.

AJ Brown seriously injured

The first turning point of the match comes a few minutes from the end of the first quarter. After a reception, AJ Brown loses the ball… and is seriously injured (suspicion of a rupture of the cruciate ligaments of the knee). The 2nd turning point comes in the following offensive series. While trying to throw the ball, Jalen Hurts’ middle finger hits Bobby Okereke’s hand, causing a dislocation. A few plays and an interception later, the diminished quarterback will give way to Marcus Mariota (13/20, 148 yards, TD, INT), who will throw… an interception on his first pass. Overall, nothing went right for Philadelphia in the first half, gaining only 102 yards compared to more than double for the Giants (272).

A New York team without complexes, taking advantage of their opponent’s mistakes. In attack, in two similar situations, New York goes for a touchdown. The situation: long pass from Tyrod Taylor (23/32, 297 yards, TD, INT) to Wan’Dale Robinson (5 REC, 85 yards), and touchdown on the ground from Saquon Barkley. The Giants also stood out defensively with 3 sacks and 2 interceptions from Xavier McKinney. Unfortunately, this great first period ended with an interception of Tyrod Taylor by Reed Blankenship. The Giants miss the chance to surpass 30 points in a single half for the first time this season.

Saquon Barkley’s last in New York?

In the second half, not much to report. Philadelphia will save the honor with a touchdown from Quez Watkins (8 REC, 93 yards, TD) on a pass from Marcus Mariota. Without being brilliant, the replacement quarterback had a rather clean second half. However, his end to the match was catastrophic, conceding 2 sacks, including one causing an inconsequential fumble.

New York only scored 3 points in the entire second half, but spent their time managing. Tyrod Taylor tries to find Sterling Shepard (3 REC, 24 yards) several times for his (probable) last game in the colors of the Giants. The receiver joins the top 5 best receivers in the history of the New York franchise in number of receptions.

This could also be the last for Saquon Barkley (18 races, 2 RECs, 97 yards, 2 TDs), at the end of his contract at the end of this season. The star runner ends the season on a good note, with 2 touchdowns. It also offers some big games of which he has the secret, including one leading to New York’s 3rd touchdown, signed Darius Slayton (5 REC, 62 yards, TD).
