Estra Siena Falls to Franchigia Firenze: Losing Lead in Standings

Estra Siena fell 9 to 7 on the pitch in Florence and thus lost their lead in the standings: the Bianconeri are now second, behind Franchigia Firenze and together with Padule Sestese, already beaten in the championship.

The match – three and a half hours of play – went by quite quickly in the first part, with the pitchers taking center stage: Alejandro Fernandez Matos, starting for the Bianconeri, on one side and Yuri Bocciolini for Florence. In the 3rd minute the Sienese took the lead: with the bases full and two out, Dario Querci scored on a throwing error by the catcher.

Fiorentina immediately equalizes in the fourth attack: Savorelli hits a single to center field, reaches second on a wild pitch, reaches third thanks to a single by Vaccari on third base and scores thanks to Bini’s hit to the shortstop: 1 to 1.

The Juventus reaction was vehement, so much so that Estra went ahead 4 to 1 in the second half of the fourth half, with Rosario Ramirez (initially deployed in catcher defense), the first batter of the inning (hit), scoring thanks to the hit on the third by Hernandez, the base ball won by Bonilla Castro and the nice single to left by Dube. The manager of Franchigia Firenze, Fedi, decides to take action, replacing the starting pitcher Bocciolini with the reliever Nannini. Alejandro Fernandez Matos’ serve allows him to arrive safely due to a defensive choice (Dube is eliminated at second) and pushes Hernandez and Bonilla to score for Siena’s momentary advantage.

The fifth Florentine attack passes quickly (3 easy eliminations), while Estra, on its turn in attack, wastes too much, leaving two men on the bases, despite the double by Rosario Ramirez and the single in the opposite field by Anyelo Hernandez, who could have push the Juventus catcher who stumbles into the ground after third base.

In the 6th minute Fiorentina comes back to make it 4-3.

In the second half of the sixth, Dario Mancini comes into bat in place of Querci (who will take Rosario’s place as receiver in defense) but Siena’s attack lasts very little, with three quick eliminations.

At the start of the 7th minute, Selmo goes up the hill to relieve Alejandro Fernandez Matos, who is moved to the centre; Rosario Ramirez goes to right field: the replacement on the mound, despite a throwing error by Bonilla from shortstop on Savorelli’s serve and a double steal.

The defeat came in the 8th inning with 5 runs scored and only one man left on base by the opponents.

Siena doesn’t have a reaction in attack. In the 9th minute Fiorentina extended their lead with another point, with Brini scoring after a shooting error by catcher Mancini in third. In attack, Estra scored only two points, but left two men on the bases, with Paulino (who came on in place of Selmo) and Bonilla Castro who ended up struck out.

FROM THE CHANGING ROOMS – Juventus player Paul Castillejos wanted to underline that, despite the defeat, “today we saw a team eager to move up in category. We have to believe it.”

NEXT ROUND – Estra will be involved next Sunday in Monteriggioni, in the first derby between two senior teams from our province. An important, historical moment, which deserves a good audience.

THE OTHER RESULTS – The Bianconeri’s next opponents (Monteriggioni) suffered a very heavy and unusual 42 to 1 from Livorno. Lucca defeated Boars Grosseto 8 to 3. The other Maremma team, the Phoenix, won 25 to 5 in Massa over the Apuan team. Padule Sestese beat Cosmos of San Casciano Val di Pesa 17 to 8.
