Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year Finalists Announced for 2023 Season

The NFL will present multiple awards during the week before Super Bowl LVIII and one of them is the Pepsi Rookie of the Year and the league has already announced the finalists for the 2023 season.

It is important to consider that the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year is a different award than the one awarded by the Associated Press, which differentiates between Offensive and Defensive Rookie.

The finalists for the award are CJ Stroud, quarterback of the Houston Texans; Puka Nacua, wide receiver of the Los Angeles Rams; Sam LaPorta, Detroit Lions tight end; Jahmyr Gibbs, Lions running back; De’Von Achane, running back for the Miami Dolphins; and Bijan Robinson, running back for the Atlanta Falcons. They were chosen through weekly voting through the official NFL website.

Stroud is the favorite to win Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year

The story of Stroud, the second player chosen in the last Draft, is incredible and how he was a vital part of the AFC South team going from three wins to 10 in one year increases his budding legend. The Ohio State graduate had 4,108 yards with 23 touchdowns and only threw five interceptions. Additionally, he and DeMeco Ryans became the third QB-HC duo since 2008, rookies to win a playoff game when they beat the Cleveland Browns in the Super Wild Card Round.

The only one that could compete with what Stroud has done is Nacua. The Rams wide receiver set new records for receptions (105) and receiving yards (1,486) in a rookie season. This sounds even more incredible when you consider that he was drafted in the fifth round and had better numbers than Zay Flowers, Jordan Addison, Jaxson Smith-Njigba y Quentin Johnston.

The Lions have two finalists

The Lions are one of the sweetest surprises of the season and both LaPorta and Gibbs have been very important in winning their first playoff game in 32 years. The tight end finished the year with 86 receptions for 889 yards and 10 touchdowns while the running back was a dual threat after adding 1,261 yards and 11 scores from the line of scrimmage.

Running backs are also considered

In addition to Gibbs, Achane and Robinson were among the most notable freshman running backs. The Dolphins player scored four of the 10 touchdowns that Miami scored against Denver in their Week 3 victory. For his part, the Falcons player was the leader in rushing yards among rookies.
