As Jon Bon Jovi once sang, we’re halfway there. The January transfer window closes on 1 February so there are 16 shopping days left in this 32-day spending spree. Last year, by the time the shutters came down, 18 of the 20 biggest signings were headed to Premier League clubs.

It’s been a very different story this time – Radu Dragusin, signed by Spurs for £25m, is the only big-money arrival so far. Financial fair play concerns, weird winter breaks and international duties are stalling the market, but this is the Premier League – wallets will surely spring open eventually.
