Owning a Piece of Basketball History: Michael Jordan’s BMW 850i Up for Sale

Owning a car after a basketball superstar might not be as out of reach as it seems.

One of the most famous and richest athletes in the world, this is the six-time winner of the NBA basketball Michael Jordan. But the basketball legend is also known for his love of cars.

Among the cars he ever owned, we can find Ferrari 512TR, Mercedes W140 S600 Coupé, Porsche 993 Turbo S, Aston Martin DB7 Volante, Bentley Continental GT, McLaren-Mercedes SLR 722, Bugatti Veyron or BMW 850i.

We will stay with the last one. A 1991 BMW 850i previously owned by Michael Jordan is currently up for sale. The car has traveled 48,000 kilometers and has had the same owner since 1995.

The car is powered by a five-liter twelve-cylinder M70 combined with a six-speed manual transmission, with an output of 221 kW (300 hp) and 450 Nm of torque. The new owner will receive a Carfax accident free report with the car including documentation signed by Michael Jordan.

The exterior boasts Mauritius dark blue metallic and AC Schnitzer tuning elements. The implementation of these parts on the BMW 850i was not done by Michael Jordan, but by the current owner. It states that the front bumper cover has been replaced, the hood, front fenders and stock wheels have been replaced with AC Schnitzer seventeen-inch wheels.

Inside the car are electrically adjustable front seats with memory, which are upholstered in beige leather. This is also found in the door panels and on the sides of the center console. Other equipment includes a black leather steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power sunroof and a cassette stereo with a CD changer in the boot.

How does it look with the current price? The auction ends on Sunday, and while it might seem that owning a car after a world-class legend can cost a lot of money, it doesn’t have to. Now the selling price is set at exactly 71 thousand dollars (1.6 million crowns). Yes, you can get the cheapest BMW 850i on the current market for about a third of that price. However, these pieces have a lot more mileage, don’t have AC Schnitzer parts, and weren’t driven by Michael Jordan…
