No feat for Grégoire Barrère eliminated in the first round of the Australian Open

The draw was not kind with Grégoire Barrère (83rd) who found himself facing Tommy Paul (14th) in the first round of the Australian Open. Complicated because the American is far ahead in the rankings, but above all because he is playing big in this first Major of the year where he reached the semi-finals last year. A premature defeat would therefore mean a very big loss of points and Paul doesn’t want that.

He therefore attacked head on, never letting Barrère breathe. Result, 6-2 in 26 minutes. There was no match. Although he held up better afterwards, the Frenchman was however unable to threaten his opponent who notably dismissed the four break points he had to defend. Unable to find the solution in return (only 14% of points in return for first serves), Barrère leaves Melbourne without certainties.
