NFL Playoff Weekend Weather Woes: Snow and Cold Impacting Games

Published on January 13, 2024 at 5:13 p.m.

Sunday’s Buffalo game was postponed until Monday. Snow and cold will be part of this NFL playoff weekend, an unusual situation.

The weather will impact two football matches this weekend.

Saturday: a cold match

It is in Kansas City, Saturday evening, that the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs will face each other. By 8 p.m. game time, temperatures will have dropped to -19 degrees. With the wind chill, it will feel like -30 degrees.

Temperatures will continue to slowly drop throughout the match. Quite a contrast for the Miami players, who are more used to a tropical climate!

Sunday’s match postponed to Monday

This Sunday, a highly anticipated game between the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Buffalo Bills should have taken place at 1 p.m., but the difficult weather conditions were right. The match was therefore moved to the next day.

A winter storm warning has also been issued by the US National Weather Service (NWS) for the Buffalo, New York area.

The area where the match will take place is at risk of coastal snow squalls. This weather phenomenon, also known as lake effect snow, results in large quantities of snow.
