New details are known about Dennis Rohan’s fatal attack on his wife

Australian cyclist Rohan Dennis, world time trial champion in 2018 and 2019, was arrested this Sunday in Australia in connection with the fatal collision of his wife, fellow cyclist Melissa Hoskins.

The 32-year-old victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he died. Her husband was arrested and left the police station a few hours later and was released on bail. On March 13, he must appear in court to face the charges of which he is accused.

Meanwhile, the police have made progress in the investigation and some details of the tragic incident have already emerged. According to some local media reports, Hoskins climbed onto the hood of the car and even grabbed one of the pick-up’s handles, as indicated by his fingerprints found by the police.. Security cameras in the area recorded the sequence and have also been used to clarify the facts. According to information, the former cyclist, at the wheel of the vehicle, did not brake and dragged his wife for several meters until she let go of the door.

Dennis was charged in the first instance with “homicide by reckless driving and endangering human life.” The investigation continues.

For its part, Melissa Hoskins’ family published a statement in AusCycling, the Australian cycling federation.: “Words cannot convey our pain, sadness and the tragic circumstances of Melissa’s passing. Myself, Amanda, Jess and my families are completely devastated and still struggling to process what happened. “Not only have we lost a daughter and a sister, her children have lost their mother, a free spirit, a person with a big heart, patience and enthusiasm for life.”

In the note they communicate that the funeral will take place in Perth, Melissa’s hometown, and that there will be a commemorative event in Adelaide after the Tour Down Under, in which the marriage was registered and from which Dennis has been expelled.
