Czech Republic Defeats Canada 3-2 in World Juniors Quarterfinals

Czech ice hockey players beat Canada 3:2 (2:0, 0:2, 1:0) in the quarterfinals.

Jakub Stancls and Tomas Cibulka made it 2-0 for the Czech Republic in the first period. Midway through the period, a free throw was awarded to the Canadian goal and the Czechs had a chance to score a third goal as well, but Canadian goalie Mathis Rousseau saved the puck.

In the second period, Matthew Wood and Jake Farlong scored for Canada and tied the score (2:2).

In the final third as well, the Canadians mostly controlled the puck, but the Czech goalkeeper Michael Hrabal managed to save his team from conceding a goal. 11 seconds before the end of regular time, the Czechs scored the winning goal, for the second time in the match, Stancl sent the puck into Canada’s goal.

With seconds remaining, Canada changed the goalie to a sixth man, but the score remained the same and the Czech Republic celebrated its victory.

It has already been reported that Finland beat Slovakia in extra time with a score of 4:3 (0:1, 1:0, 2:2, 1:0) in the quarterfinals.

On Tuesday, the Latvian U-20 men’s national team will play against their peers from the USA in the quarter-finals, and the host Sweden will face Switzerland.

The master competition will take place in Gothenburg from December 26 to January 5.
