New Club Song for Westerlo: Romeo Vermant’s Arrival Inspires Musical Tribute

Romeo Vermant is not the first ‘Romeo’ to score for Westerlo. Davy Gilles, one of the singers of ‘De Romeo’s’, sang a new club song for the Kemphanen two years ago and came up with a nice idea after Vermant’s transfer.

“A Romeo coming to ‘t Kuipje, that can only be a good transfer,” laughs Davy Gilles, who has been a Westerlo supporter for a while. “As a young guest I grew up with Timmy Simons, so I was a fan of Club Brugge for a while. Now my heart beats for Westerlo. I live here and my son plays for the provincial U13. My admiration and respect for this club has only grown in recent years.”

With the arrival of ‘namesake’ Romeo Vermant, Gilles, who also sang the new club song ‘Geel & Blauw’ two years ago, could not sit still. He adapted the text for us to the melody of the Flemish classic ‘Viva de Romeo’s’. The result: yes, perhaps a nice supporter’s song for the brand new Kempen acquisition.

“Hopefully he will score often,” concludes Gilles. “It would be nice to hear the song roll off the stands regularly.”
