Naomi Osaka Suffers Defeat in Brisbane After Comeback Victory

After her comeback victory, Naomi Osaka suffered a defeat in her second game after returning to the tennis tour.

The former world number one lost in the second round in Brisbane on Wednesday to number 16 seeded Czech Karolina Pliskova in a thriller 6:3, 6:7 (4), 4:6.

The Japanese, who became a mother for the first time last summer, played her first tournament in 15 months. At the start she defeated the German Tamara Korpatsch.

“The week was definitely shorter than I wanted”

“The week is definitely shorter than I wanted, but overall it was a great match, both played really well, I had a lot of fun,” said the 26-year-old.

Any doubts in advance were dispelled by their performances in the two games. The four-time Grand Slam winner is now hoping for a better performance at the Australian Open in Melbourne, where she won the title in 2019 and 2021.
