Motorcyclist dies after crash at Dakar Rally

During the Dakar Rally, Spaniard Carles Falcón falls at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour and is seriously injured. A week later, the 45-year-old died in hospital.

Spanish motorcycle rider Carles Falcón has died after crashing during the second stage of the Dakar Rally. This was announced by the race management on the X platform, formerly Twitter, and his team Twintrail Racing on Instagram this Monday. “On Monday, January 15th, Carles left us. The medical team has confirmed that the neurological damage caused by the cardiac-respiratory arrest caused by the accident is irreversible,” the statement said.

The 45-year-old had a serious fall on January 7th at a speed of around 80 kilometers per hour on the stage between Al Henakijah and Al Duwadimi in Saudi Arabia.

His head hit the ground hard, Spanish media reported. According to the Dakar Rally, Falcón was quickly treated by the medical team and initially taken to a hospital in Al Duwadimi. From there he was transported to a hospital in Riyadh and flown to his home country of Spain a few days later. He died there in a hospital.

Falcón had already taken part in the 2022 Dakar Rally. He was considered an experienced pilot.
