This Saturday the streets of the Historic Center hosted one of its most anticipated sporting events, the Orienteering Race.Agüimesa municipality to get lost’, which in its eleventh edition has had a successful participation with more than 200 registered of all ages. The sporting event, which had the Agüimes Auditorium Theater as its starting and finishing point, was organized by the City Council, the technical direction of the O-riéntate Sports Club and the collaboration of the Agüico Club.
The test had twenty different categories, for all ages and all levels of orientation, with the aim of not only promoting sport, but also intergenerational leisure and cooperation experiences. The main novelty of this edition has been the incorporation of a new category in which People with reduced mobility have been able to participate, with the aim of making the competition accessible to as many people as possible. The Orientation Race has been consolidated over the years as a very familiar competition, with an average of 200 entrants who compete year after year in updated tests, which makes the activity take on a new character in each of its celebrations.
Agüimes has been a regional benchmark in orienteering races for years, having three permanent circuits where you can practice this sport, which combines agility and insight, throughout the year. The first of these circuits is precisely in the historic center, the second in the Cruce de Arinaga Urban Park, and the third in the Playa de Arinaga Urban Park. In each of them, the runner has the possibility of downloading the map to their own mobile phone and completing the race following the QR codes placed on the different beacons, which makes it easier to complete the route successfully.
