Mauro Nespoli Tests Positive for Covid-19, Forced to Miss European Grand Prix

Mauro Nespoli did not leave with the national archery team for the European Grand Prix, scheduled in Porec (Croatia) from tomorrow until Saturday.

The 33-year-old archer from Voghera, winner of the gold medal in the archery team competition at the 2012 London Olympics, tested positive for Covid-19.

“I didn’t even go to the Italian Championships in Rimini because I was waiting for the result of a swab which unfortunately came back positive – said Nespoli – I’m very sorry not to be able to compete in Porec, it was the first international event after the one held last October in Antalya. Luckily I currently have no symptoms and I will have to wait 14 days to take the swab again, in the hope of becoming negative as soon as possible. In the meantime I am not losing heart and I am organizing myself to continue training: today they will bring me a straw to put in the salon to work from home and be ready for when I can return to camp.”

Italy arrived in Croatia with 11 athletes from the Olympic division and 6 from the compound division, all negative for the molecular test.

These are the Italians who have already tested the Porec shooting line today in practice shooting: in the men’s Olimpico Marco Morello (Aeronautica Militare), Federico Musolesi (Castenaso Archery Team), Yuri Belli (Aquila Bianca Archers), Marco Galiazzo (Aeronautica Military) and Alessandro Paoli (Arcieri Iuvenilia).

In the women’s category there are Tatiana Andreoli (Fiamme Oro), Lucilla Boari (Fiamme Oro), Chiara Rebagliati (Arcieri Torrevecchia), Tanya Giada Giaccheri (Aeronautica Militare), Karen Hervat (Trieste Archery Team) and Elena Tonetta (Aeronautica Militare).

For the Compound division, which has not participated in an international event since 2019, those called up are Marco Bruno (Arcieri di Volpiano), Jesse Sut (Kosmos Rovereto), Valerio Della Stua (Polisportiva Solese), Marcella Tonioli (Compagnia Ilcinese Montalcino), Elisa Bazzichetto (Archers of Torresin) and Elisa Roner (Kosmos Rovereto).
