Luka Doncic: The Best European Player of All Time Contender, but Something is Missing

At this point we will not discover Luka Doncic as a basketball player. The Slovenian is the soul of the Dallas Mavericks and one of the best in the NBA; so much so that he is currently in the running for the MVP of the 2023-24 season. However, something is still missing.

That’s exactly what San Antonio Spurs and French basketball legend Tony Parker talks about when asked if Doncic is in the discussion for the best European player of all time. The Frenchman does not doubt the talent of the Mavs star, but highlights a detail that, according to him, takes him out of the fight with other great players from the old continent.

«In my opinion, for a player to enter the debate on the best European player of all time, he must win a championship. This is just my personal opinion. I love the discussion about the best. I always have that conversation with my brother and my friends. In my opinion, if you don’t know what it takes to win a championship, you shouldn’t be part of the discussion about the greatest of all time,” Parker says in statements reported by Eurohoops.

Parker may not be wrong. Doncic’s numbers and basketball are at the top, but the next step must be to really fight to become NBA champion, and so far his ceiling has been the 2022 Western Conference finals. We are talking about the NBA, obviously, given that in 2017 he was proclaimed Eurobasket champion when he was only 18 years old.
