Ligue 1: coach Pierre Sage extended until the end of the season in Lyon

No stranger to Lyon’s rise in the rankings (15th), Pierre Sage was extended until June 30, 2024 in his coaching duties. The former assistant coach of Lyon-La Duchère and Red Star was named director of the Lyon Academy in June 2023, before taking charge of the first team following the dismissal of Italian Fabio Grosso on November 30. “The 44-year-old technician played an important role in the recent sporting recovery of OL, emerging from the relegation zone thanks to three consecutive victories obtained at the end of 2023 and recently qualified for the round of 16 of the Coupe de France,” we can read in the press release from the Rhone club.

When he took office, Les Gones were bottom of Ligue 1 with 7 points in 12 days. Alexandre Lacazette’s teammates are now 15th and out of the relegation zone with 16 points after three wins in a row, against Toulouse (3-0), Monaco (0-1) and Nantes (1-0).

“For the second part of the season, Pierre Sage, still accompanied by Jérémie Bréchet and Rémy Vercoutre, saw his staff strengthened with the arrival of Jamal Alioui, former professional player trained at OL, and Damien Della Santa, specialist in individual development,” concludes Olympique Lyonnais on its website.

” What changed ? The coach. Pierre Sage was able to bring another state of mind. Obviously, when you win, it’s easier to work,” declared OL captain Alexandre Lacazette, a few minutes after qualifying against Pontarlier (3-0) in the 32nd finals of the Coupe de France last Sunday.
