Léolia Jeanjean exit from entry by Caroline Dolehide at the Australian Open

There will be no second round at the Australian Open for Léolia Jeanjean, who was eliminated as soon as she entered the fray on Sunday, by the American Caroline Dolehide, 44th player in the world (6-2, 6-4) .

Coming from qualifying, Jeanjean (28 years old, 145th WTA) hoped to advance for the first time to a round in a Grand Slam tournament other than Roland-Garros, especially since she had won the only match which had opposed her to her opponent of the day (2-6, 7-6 (2), 6-3, on the clay of Buenos Aires, in 2022).

92% first serves

But Dolehide, the big surprise of the last WTA 1,000 in Guadalajara, of which she reached the final last October (beaten by Maria Sakkari) showed herself superior to the Frenchwoman from start to finish, notably thanks to superior power, but also particularly because of a very strong mastery of his own serve, with 96% of first balls passed in the first set (including a good part with a lot of kicks) and 92% over the entire match.

Broken from the start in each set, Jeanjean always raced behind, saving a double break point at 6-2, 3-1, 30-40 but ultimately never being able to catch up. She bowed in less than an hour and a quarter. In the second round, Wednesday, Dolehide will face the winner of the match scheduled for Monday between Coco Gauff (world No. 4) and Anna Karolína Schmiedlová (67th WTA).
