League Cup: Racing had a forgettable debut and lost at home to Unión | The Santa Fe team won 1-0 with a great goal from Mosqueira

Gustavo Costas’s return to Racing could not have been worse. With a very poor performance, his team fell 1-0 at home against Unión in a duel in which they barely worried the Santa Fe defense in 90 minutes. Joaquín Mosqueira, with a great goal from distance, scored the deserved victory for Kily González’s team.

The expectation that there was for the new Racing seemed to weigh on its players, with a performance well below what could be expected. Without intensity or dynamics, Costas’ team went out onto the field to pass the ball without having a clear objective as to why they were doing it. To make matters worse, on the other side he found an organized opponent, who was very aware of the game he wanted to play.

For this reason, Unión needed less than a quarter of an hour to show itself better and take the lead with a great goal from Mosqueira, who beat Arias with a shot from 30 meters after a good collective combination.

Not even the goal against woke up Racing, which continued with a passive attitude that facilitated development for the visiting team. Without unchecking or dribbling to break lines, Costas’ team did not create any dangerous chances and went to half-time with a feeling of dejection, as if the entire second half was not missing.

The entrances of Adrián Martínez and Santiago Solari gave him a little more play, but he barely bothered a header from Conti. The rest was pushing and colliding with a solid defense, which at that point was already dedicated to holding on. Already decidedly stopped from the counterattack, Unión was still superior and had chances to increase with a tackle from Luna Dialle and a header from Corvalán. Thus he took a fair victory and left a Racing team full of doubts that has a lot to improve.
