Latvian Skeletonists Win Silver and Bronze at Youth Winter Olympic Games

Latvian skeletonists Dārta Neimane and Laura Lēgere won silver and bronze respectively at the Youth Winter Olympic Games in South Korea on Monday, while Amēlija Kotāne and Kate Prudāne took the fourth and fifth positions in the monobobsley competition.

Neumane was the leader after the first run, ahead of the closest follower, Maria Foz of Germany, by 0.10 seconds, but in the second run, the Latvian managed only the fourth best finish time, which caused her to fall back to the second position in the sum of both runs.

The German skeleton player spent a total of one minute and 49.45 seconds on the track, and Neumann was 0.34 seconds behind the total.

Läger had the third and seventh best finishing times in the races, which gave her third place in the sum of both races, losing 0.77 seconds.

Also, skeleton athlete Marta Andžane, who was in tenth place after the first race, achieved the best finish time in the second race, which allowed her to finish the competition in fifth place among 18 athletes. Andžane conceded to the winner by 0.94 seconds.

In the monobobsley competition, Kotane was in second place after the first run, but in the second run she had the fifth best finish time. In the sum of both trips, the Latvian spent one minute and 54.54 seconds on the track.

On the other hand, Prudāne, having achieved the fourth and sixth best finishing time in the races, finished in minutes and 54.81 seconds.

The first place was won by the Danish athlete Maja Voigt, who was the fastest in both races and spent a total of one minute and 53.31 seconds on the track. Kotane lost 1.23 seconds to the winner and was 0.20 seconds behind the top three, while Prudane lost 1.50 seconds to the winner.
