The need to have an experienced bat in their lineup led the Toronto Blue Jays to reach an agreement with hitter Justin Turner, according to MLB reporter Jon Paul Morosi.

So far the club has not confirmed the pact, which is expected to be worth 13 million, plus 1.5 million in incentives, with which the 39-year-old player will be playing his 16th season in the Major Leagues.

Turner has dropped an OPS below .800 just once over the past decade, though his defensive skills are what make his arrival in Toronto even more interesting.

JUSTIN TURNER STATISTICS IN MAJOR LEAGUE

  • Seasons: 15
  • Games: 1539
  • Hits: 1461
  • Home runs: 187
  • Runs produced: 759
  • Walks: 513
  • Strikeouts: 880
  • Batting PCT: .288

Justin Turner played only three games at third base in 2023, but it was because of sharing the same roster with the Dominican Rafael Devers. In addition to appearing as a designated hitter 98 times, the Red Sox used him at first base (35 starts) and even at second base (four). He is expected to fill a similar position with the Blue Jays; a bit of everything.

This will be the fifth team for which Justin Turner plays in MLB, after he arrived in 2009 with the Baltimore Orioles, later moving to the New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox. The Los Angeles squad is the one with which he had the most campaigns after having been there nine times, from 2014 to 2022. Seventh Entry
