Judoka Sébastien Fecteau Qualifies for Elite National Judo Championships

JUDO. Judoka Sébastien Fecteau is starting 2024 in style, having recently qualified to participate in the Elite National Judo Championships, which will take place this weekend (January 13-14), in Edmonton, Alberta.

In his first year in U18, the Barnston-West athlete earned his pass in the under 55 kilo category thanks to his fourth place in the Canadian rankings for this category.

“I am proud to be able to participate in this big competition,” he says. The level of the other fighters is very high and it will be very close. I do everything to prepare well. Either way, whatever my result, it will give me a lot of experience. »

2023 provincial vice-champion in U16 – 55 kilos, Sébastien won a gold medal, a silver medal and a bronze medal this season. He is classified at Espoir level by Judo Québec.

These Championships bring together the first seven judokas in the Canadian ranking as well as an eighth athlete for men and women, selected by the Judo Canada High Performance Committee. This makes this event one of the most prestigious of the year.

Note also that Sherbrooke Liana Bélanger, also a member of the To Haku Kan Judo Club, qualified for these same Elite National Championships. Elza Girondier, from Waterville, had reached this stage in 2022 and 2023.
