Johan Derksen Criticizes Ajax Women’s Performance in Champions League

Johan Derksen is not impressed by the performance of the Ajax Women in the Champions League. On Tuesday evening, Suzanne Bakker’s team won 2-1 against AS Roma, meaning Ajax reached the quarter-finals.

The euphoria was great in Amsterdam, but according to Derksen it masked the mediocre fielding. “I read the newspapers this morning about the level of Ajax. I’ve seen the first half. It doesn’t look like playing football, does it, those women. They act like it’s great. The results are good, against big clubs, but if you like football, you don’t like women’s football,” the analyst concluded on Wednesday evening. Today Inside.

Ajax indeed did not play a strong first half and could not complain with the 1-1 halftime score. The first half was apparently for Roma. Ajax was particularly vulnerable from corners. Elisa Bartoli was twice completely free at a corner kick and once managed to take advantage of it with a striking header.

Derksen is generally not satisfied with the level of women’s football. “All goalkeepers are bad in the air and can’t actually reach the crossbar. They don’t see the opening. And when they see the opening, they don’t have the technique to take the pass there. I really think they will lose to all B1 teams.”

Do you agree with Johan Derksen’s criticism of women’s football?
