Indonesian National Team Coach Shin Tae-yong’s Fate Hangs in the Balance After Asian Cup Loss

tvOnenews.com – The Indonesian national team started the Asian Cup with a minor loss to Iraq at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, Al Rayyan, Monday (15/1/2024).

It turns out that the Indonesian National Team’s 3-1 defeat to Iraq will affect the fate of the coach, Shin Tae-yong.

PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir said that the contract extension for Indonesian national team coach Shin Tae-yong really depends on the coach’s performance in the 2023 Asian Cup and 2024 U-23 Asian Cup.

This was conveyed by Erick after attending the MoU Groundbreaking of PSSI and Abdi Waluyo Hospital at Danareksa Tower, Jakarta, Thursday (18/1/2024).

“Extend (STY’s current contract) until June, but later we will review his performance for the Senior Asia Cup (2023 Asian Cup) and of course the U-23 Asia Cup (2024 U-23 Asian Cup),” said Erick Thohir.

Erick said that if the South Korean coach’s performance was considered good, it would open up opportunities to negotiate a contract extension until 2027.
