Impressive Medal Haul for Judo Club Avilés at Canide Sports Center

The Canide sports center was, once again, a place that left a good taste in the mouths of the Judo Club Avilés expedition. A dozen metals are not a bad haul to start 2024 and show that the work done is beginning to bear fruit. Nel Suárez and Adriana Coronado won the two gold medals, while Luis Villabrille, Nacho Suárez, Illán Gutiérrez and Anxo Regueiro won the silver, and Daniel Pizarro, Alejandro Linares, Olaya Madrid and Valeria Coronado won the bronze. We should also highlight the fifth places of Sofía El Mouzdahir, Ángel Miguélez and Marco Menéndez and the seventh place of Saúl Fernández.

“Fourteen golds could have been won. They know that I will always ask for more. I said that with effort everything would come and I am still convinced of that. One part of the journey will be good and the other will be hard and difficult, but we have to fight until we get our objective,” said Raquel Pascual, the team’s coach, who understands that the judokas “have gained energy for the Asturian competitions. We must continue in this line, suffering in each training session.”

Among the competitors, the feelings were different at the end of the tournament. Nel Suárez admitted feeling nervous, but in his first fight he knew how to handle it well “marking ippon de seoi on his knees.” In the final, with more confidence, he felt freer to enter “quickly from harai, following my coach’s instructions in the mate and I scored ippon.” In the case of Adriana Coronado, she was proud because “the effort was worth it.”
