The German handball players found the right answer to the draw against Austria and shined against Hungary. With a win in the final group game against Croatia, the team has secured the European Championship semi-finals. There are a total of seven scenarios in which Germany reaches the semi-finals.

After the 35:28 win against Hungary, the German handball players are close to reaching the semi-finals of the European Championship. The team of national coach Alfred Gislason is in second place in Group I with 5:3 points behind France (8:0) and therefore has all the trump cards against its rivals Hungary and Austria (both 4:4).

There are several scenarios to achieve the goal. You could even afford a defeat in the last main round game against Croatia on Wednesday if the competition doesn’t win.

The German team will reach the semi-finals if they:

wins against Croatia. Draws against Croatia, Hungary gets a maximum of one point against France and Austria doesn’t win against Iceland by more than nine goals. If there is a tie on points with Austria and no winner in the direct duel, the better goal difference would speak for the DHB selection.

The national team can overcome all eventualities with a win against Croatia. To do this, she must be as committed as she was against Hungary. “We watched a lot of videos, you saw that on the field today,” analyzed Julian Köster, the best German player against Hungary. “We can build on that against Croatia. But this will be just as much of a fight as the previous games.”
