Get Ready for the Rimi Riga Marathon: Training Sessions and Tips for Long-Distance Running

The organizers remind that it is high time to start preparing for long distances – marathon and half-marathon, inviting marathon runners to follow for the training plans offered on the website.

Every running enthusiast is invited to a free general training session in the newly opened Daugava athletics arena. Training is scheduled to start on Sunday at 10, the organizers informed. It will be a unique opportunity for the participants to get training experience in the athletics arena for the first time, which runners have been looking forward to for a long time.

The theoretical part of the training will be opened by the director of the Riga Marathon, Aigars Nords, with a short introduction about the current events of the season, while Olympian, trainer and long-distance runner Ilona Marhele will share training plans and recommendations for preparing for the marathon. Running coach Arnis Ozoliņš will moderate the conversation, in which Latvian marathon legend Jeļena Prokopčukas and Latvian record holder in the 5 km distance Uģis Jocis will participate with stories of their experiences.

In the practical part of the training, participants will be divided into several groups to perform various tasks under the guidance of experienced trainers.

On the way to the marathon, the organizers will publish recommendations and tips of coaches, physiotherapists and experienced runners on their social network accounts every week on how to better prepare for the start.

As usual, “Rimi” Riga Marathon, starting from March, will organize free training sessions in Mežapark led by coaches and with the participation of pace keepers, ensuring a dynamic warm-up, an exciting training process and proper stretching. Training will take place until the Riga Marathon, which will take place on May 18 and 19.

Registration for “Rimi” Riga Marathon is already open. You can register for the marathon, half marathon, 10 km, 5 km and mile on the official website. Traditionally, it is more profitable to register by February 29. Registration for the Children’s Day marathon, as well as the Latvian School Cup, where students from all over Latvia will have the opportunity to apply for a symbolic participation fee, will be opened at the end of February.
